The Meaning

Botanicals:  Ladies mantle, jewelweed, wild rose, lily, goldenrod, wild oat

Let's begin by talking about the number 5; fives are concerned with union and Eros and contain a lot of energy and movement. Five is concerned with pushing us, loosening us and revolutionizing us.  It does not let us stand still, in which case, we become inflexible and rigid.  We can thank five for taking us out of our security and confronting us with that which will produce growth within us.  It may not be comfortable but the inner transformation will be well worth the experience!  It is five that introduces us to the darker feminine energies of our psyche.  Here is where we come into contact with Lilith, goddess of the night so it is no surprise you may feel alarmed.  Take a deep breath, you are safe.

In particular the five of cups presents us with an experience of privation and an obstacle to making a true connection.  Perhaps we are fearful of that which is new and different. Our past destructive behavior may have left us with rubble with which we find it hard to connect in a genuine way to others.  We may feel the death force due to our loss in pleasure.  All is not lost.  The gift of this card is in learning to reorient oneself to what still does exist-there is always a bridge to the other side- there is always a way back home, but perhaps as a different person.

How can you reorient yourself or change your mode of relating to people?  How can you change your stance so that you create genuine union and align with Eros again?  This emotional experience, though painful, is very meaningful because you are in a state of change- in the way you relate to yourself and others.  This marks a turning of the tide.  This is the beginning of a new phase in life.  Can you forgive yourself and others for mistakes made in the past?  This is important to commit to because if you are successful it will free up enormous amounts of energy that are no longer stuck in the past.  You can move forward with reserves of vitality.  In order to find transformation you must cross the unfamiliar bridge- trust in the future- trust in the unknown, and most of all trust yourself.  Focus on what still remains and build upon that.

Wild rose is a delicate and yet passionate friend who will open your heart up to inspiration and life again.  She helps you find your dreams again.

Goldenrod helps to open up the solar plexus which is our power center. We can feel relief from powerlessness and take charge with courage.

Lily is here to help balance our yin energy with our yang energy.  We will come to know ourselves and capabilities better with her assistance.

The deeply transformative process happening within you marks a new phase in life. Forgive the past and trust in the unknown future. You will find your way back to Love.
