Five of Pentacles

Night Blooming Cereus

I am not forgotten, even when I feel unseen. My worth is not measured by what I have lost. Even in this season of scarcity, something sacred is opening inside me that only the dark could teach.

The Meaning

A card of material and spiritual hardship, the loneliness of lack, and the sacred opening that lives within suffering. The Five of Pentacles walks in the cold, outside the warmth of the stained glass window — but the window is always there, glowing. Poverty of circumstance is not poverty of soul. The most exquisite blooms sometimes open in the deepest dark.

The bloom that opens in the dark needs no witness to be holy

The Plant Medicine

Plants chosen for their ability to open the heart, restore trust, and activate the creative life force.

  1. Night Blooming Cereus
    Epiphyllum oxypetalum
Blooms only once a year, in total darkness, for a single night — and by morning the flower is gone. In homeopathic tradition, associated with the heart, with constriction and fear. Proof that the most exquisite opening can happen in the deepest dark, unseen, without applause — poverty of circumstance does not mean poverty of soul.
