The Devil

This card marks the last seven cards of the major arcana and represent the first of the seven stages of spiritual enlightenment.  The first stage (represented in the devil card) is called the “consciousness of bondage”.  It is the realization that we are not free, that in order to become free we must confront the shadow.  We know we have reached this first stage when we feel a deep yearning for change.  

The devil (within you) would like you to believe that what you see is all there is.  This is not an uplifting thought and leads one to feel hopeless, uninspired and depressed.  Remember, this is only half the truth, it does not take into consideration the whole picture which is always best.  There is a world that can only be sensed, but it is as real and magical as the part you can see! What you see is only half there is.

As you navigate the shadow aspect of yourself, it is helpful to invite humor.  You have the ability to move through your problems with stability. Let us not take our bedevilments or problems too seriously, and allow spaciousness and amusement to be present. This approach will ensure you do not get thrown off balance. Drop your self judgment,  even the Divine has a polarity!

Remember, the limitations you are experiencing are not real.  These self made chains of bondage are an illusion and you can become free of them. Do not allow matter to rule over spirit.  Each one of us has our own demons to face and a self limited mindset to overcome. Your inflamed passions may be leading you to feel deep frustration, shame, torture and fear- these things are here to spur you into action.  They are here, FOR YOU, to help you free yourself of bondage and move through the stages to enlightenment!
